We had a three-day weekend this past Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Gotta love Eid. We had a very relaxing weekend. We did nothing of importance. Watching movies, reading books, choosing pictures to hang on the wall, eating a breakfast out, getting a pedicure (only for Cory) and sipping wine basically consumed our time over those three days. It was fantastic just to be home. We watched The Lives of Others, a wonderful story set before the Berlin Wall came down. Highly recommend it. Best foreign film. A very slow-moving story, but well worth reading the subtitles for. We also watched The Departed. Loved it. That movie is stacked with great actors! And, as usual, Jack Nicholson never fails to make me shudder with his unattractiveness and overall weirdo factor. The last movie we watched was Babel. Not a favorite, but interesting.
We got some items framed from a frame shop nearby. They did a fantastic job, for relatively cheap. So, guess what we'll be doing with the 50-some-odd photos we plan to hang on the walls?
Three days of relaxation was meant to prepare us for a stressful week. I would venture to say that it did, but I do believe that one can always use an extra day off from work each week. I think it makes everyone more productive.
Today was the first of two parent conference days. Overall, they went well for the both of us. Since we have no grades in elementary school and report cards are not due until December, I had nothing to show in terms of numbers and basically presented a portfolio of work and discussed progress. Served me well for the most part. Cory's conferences were arena style, with every middle school teacher sitting in the gym, waiting for parents to show up. Intriguing method. One day down, one more to go. This week has also been busy with planning for the upcoming Filipiniana holiday, a traditional town gathering where families congregate and play games, eat food, etc. The kids will get to enjoy a jeepney ride, partake in traditional songs and dances, try Filipino foods and have a chance to visit various stands for games and activities. Should be fun.
Then comes October break. It's been a long term. Bring on Beijing.

Bet you're both glad conferences are almost over...... can't wait to see some more pictures (from the new camera that should arrive soon......hint, hint) of the both of you, Manila, your place and school life. You know me, I never quit bugging you, even from half way around the world! Love you, mom
Yes, I love conferences (shudder), we start tomorrow, wonder what parent will even show up?
