Bits and Pieces

So, haven't posted for awhile simply because there hasn't been a whole lot of exciting news. Nonetheless, I will give a few quick updates on happenings in this part of the world:
* Cory went on a school trip to Caylabne, about three hours south of Manila, for a Classroom Without Walls experience. The seventh-graders took part in a range of outdoor activities to get them acquainted with other areas of the Philippines and to give them the chance to engage in activities that they don't normally get to do. Cory, of course, was in charge of the hiking and American football activities. He enjoyed them thoroughly and the kids had fun hiking through the rainforest, along the beaches and playing Cory's favorite sport of all time. While he was away, I was taken care of by friends who had me over for dinner, drinks and chats. My routine became a little messed up, but I managed without my hubby somehow. I was glad to have him back, though.
* The two-year-old daughter of Cory's colleague has been sick since she was born. She had to have a liver transplant when she was a newborn and has since developed cancer. There has been a major push in recent weeks to organize funds to donate to their family because insurance refuses to cover their expenses any longer. School-wide dress down donation days were organized, a Walkathon was facilitated by Cory and some of the other middle school teachers, a card game fundraiser was set up for staff and donations in general were given to help. Once again, situations like these sure make you appreciate every healthful moment.
* Elementary Sports Day was last Friday and it was a blast. The entire day was dedicated to being active and the kids rotated between cooperative games, gymnastics activities and field games. Each class designed their own T-shirts with names and cheers. My class voted on Patterson's Positive Pirates and our shirts included a pirate ship and a logo that read "We ARGH the best!" By the end of the day, we were all exhausted, but it was very successful. We have the event in January because it is supposedly the cooler time of year. While I would have to agree, the temperature is most likely only a few degrees different than the usual hot and humid.
* We've been getting into the show Arrested Development recently. Not sure why it got cancelled. It is really, really funny.
* Virgie has been doing wonders in the kitchen. We bought this low-carb cookbook and every meal we've chosen from it to have her cook for the past two and a half weeks has been superb. What a treat to have your cooking done for you! Makes having dinner parties that much easier. :)

Overall, school, home and social life is great and we are happier than ever. We're trying to enjoy the company of those who will be leaving next year for new places and opportunities and also establish solid relationships with those who are staying. Time is flying by and I can't believe it's already February.
