Last Friday, three couples (including ourselves) hosted a first-ever themed dinner night. We had gotten together for a meal several weeks before and thought it would be fun to each invite another couple and take on appetizers, a main dish and dessert with an international flavor. We chose France. All because Steve wanted to make his crepe things. Cory and I thought opting for the appetizers would be easy. Alas, it was not.
We scrolled through different recipes and finally settled on caviar, fig and olive tapenade with french bread and crackers and baked brie pastries. We also bought sparkling white wine (since the champagne was not even near the cheap side) and other spirits for the evening's festivities.
Dinner started at 6:30 at ours and everything was delicious. I myself did not try the caviar and it appeared to be more of an acquired taste as we had more of that left at the end than anything else! After about an hour of chatting, drinking and nibbling, we went to the Ferens for the main course: chicken something (I was clearly beyond remembering at this point) and more wine. Another hour passed and we started getting a bit tipsy. We headed up to the next couples' place and enjoyed some crepes with ice cream and syrup, all the while drinking more wine and playing "Kick the Ball in the Baby Pool." The night didn't end until the wee hours of the next morning.
We decided that we should do this more often.

That sounds tough moving around to everybodys houses in one night!! We do it at one persons house and generally who ever is hosting does the main and the others bring their entree's and Desserts with them or they make them at the hosts house. We had one on Saturday night. It was our turn. I did chicken breast stuffed with Camembert, coated in sundried tomato pesto and wrapped in Prociuttio ham, served with spiced rice stuffed capsicums and broccoli! Yum. The entree folk brought lamb and vegie kebabs and dessert was lemon and lime cheese cake with lemon sorbet...
