Wine Night

Well, it was our first full week back to work. My kids were testing every last inch of my patience this week, while Cory ended up with a slightly worse version of my sinus cold from before break and took Friday off. What better way to end the week than with friends at a wine event put on by Wine Depot and held at the outdoor lounge of two great restaurants in downtown Makati, Sala Bistro and People's Palace?

Here is the menu of wine and tasters that we enjoyed last night:

Dr. L Riesling 2007
with
Miang of sweet pork, pomello and white shrimp
Chicken and coconut salad

Villa Wolf Gewurztraminer 2007
with
Goong sarong (tiger prawn in egg noodles) with sweet chili sauce
Hor mok talay (steamed seafood custard with red paste in banana leaf)

St. Hallett Faith Shiraz 2006
with
Slow braised spiced lamb shoulder, sweet white onion risotto and gremolata
Roast duck on braised lentils with beetroot and orange

St. Hallett Blackwell Shiraz 2005
with
Bistro Angus burger with sweet potato crisps
Australian cheeses

In our opinion, the Riesling was the best and the one we walked home with. We pretty much devoured everything with pleasure, but really liked the tiger prawns in egg noodles, the seafood custard and the roast duck best. We did lose faith, however, in the Faith Shiraz because we both woke up with severe headaches and are blaming the red for it since Kristy had no red and was fine. Or perhaps we got headaches because they refilled our glasses as soon as the last sip was taken each and every time???
