Buri Resort

This weekend, we took a little excursion to Puerto Galera, a beach town about 2 hours' drive and 1 hour banca boat south of Manila. The traffic was crazy early on Saturday morning and we had to wait for a ferry. We passed the time drinking beers and teasing each other while Aiston made heads turn as other trip-goers wondered what the three wives and a baby were up to. 

Our little family and Aunties Kristy and Mel stayed at Buri Resort for one night. It was absolutely lovely. It made the 7-hour travel time to get there worth it. We ate lunch, swam in the pool, enjoyed a consistent stream of cocktails and swam some more. We relaxed on the cushioned beach chairs, chatted with a gorgeously well-rounded second-grader who was staying at the resort with her parents (and hence confirmed that it is possible to raise a single child to be so wonderful) and talked the day away. After Ace went to sleep, we had a late night swim in the pool while sipping more wine and beer and a yummy dinner. The next day, we enjoyed more of the same: swimming, lounging, snacking, drinking and swimming some more. Kristy and I even jumped off the dock without realizing how strong the current was. We couldn't get back up via the dock's ridiculously high ladder so we had to swim to shore.

Aiston had a ball playing with his Aunties and as usual, they were a huge help, taking him so we could pack up, playing in the water with him and entertaining him in the car.

The trip back took only 4 hours (haha), but it was a bit more unnerving because the sea was choppy and the passengers were tense. Ace didn't seem to mind - he fell asleep the entire boat ride back! In fact, Aiston was amazing. He cried a total of about 3 minutes the entire weekend. What a trooper after spending so many hours in the car and on the ferry.

Although the travel time to get places here can be a real pain in the behind, what more could you ask for when you are ready to get out of Manila and when you're in the company of good friends, an awesome husband and a fantastic baby, and surrounded by turquoise waters, sunny blue skies, shady trees, comfy accommodations and delicious thirst-quenchers?

Not much, I tell ya, not much.
