The next morning, Santa made an exception by visiting our house early. We were flying to Cambodia in the evening on December 19, so we had the entire morning to enjoy the festivities.
Of course, as soon as Aiston woke up, he noticed all the goodies under the tree. There were gifts for him, for Mom, for Dad and for Lola. In order to give us a bit of a sleep-in, he went to the park (we are the meanest parents EVER) with his Ate.
We three adults woke up leisurely and made a big pot of coffee, put the holidays tunes on and got the cameras ready. As soon as Ace walked up the stairs, it was excitement like we'd never seen it before. Being the big three-year-old, Aiston clued in to the idea that there were special things under the tree just for him. We had an absolutely lovely morning opening gifts, snapping photos, singing along to the music, reminiscing and giggling over Aiston's antics. We wolfed down a huge breakfast, played with some of Ace's toys and tried to organize a bit. Then, we put him down for a nap, finished packing and headed for the airport on the traffic-clogged streets that we call part of our second home. It took us over an hour and a half to get to the airport and once we did...it took us almost another hour and a half to get through the check-in line, the Aiston line, the departure tax line, the expat line and the security line! BUT, it was vacation time, so nothing bothered us (a few San Miguels helped, too).
